The real story on Eastenders over the last few weeks has been the blackmailing of Phil Mitchell with the culprit revealed as his son Ben. There were very few people who even thought that Ben was the blackmailer with rumours on the Internet about a whole host of other characters from Eastenders. However, it was Shirley who finally spotted the fact that Ben seemed to know far too much information about the blackmail plot, much of which had not been revealed to anybody. But why did Ben tell the police about his dad?

If we look back at the history of Eastenders there is no doubt that Phil Mitchell has been on the verge of prison for some time, indeed he has even been to prison for a stretch. It seems as though the death of Stella, who tortured Ben for many months, was the turning point because Ben seems to have remembered facts which other people were not aware of. It looks as Phil said certain things to Stella when she was on the rooftop, prior to her suicide, and Ben believes that these were the comments which prompted her to jump to her death. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen but if the rumours on the Internet are correct then Phil Mitchell has even more problems ahead.

There are some people who believe Phil Mitchell will be tried in court for another murder, aside from that of Stella, with the potential to be locked up for many years to come. It is unclear exactly what will happen when the case comes to court, assuming that it does come to court, but there have also been no rumours regarding the departure of Phil Mitchell. There is no doubt that we will see a prolonged court case in the weeks and months ahead and we will see internal bickering amongst the Mitchell family with some believing, wrongly, that Ben had nothing to do with his father’s arrest and others suspecting he is behind it.

The life and times of Ben Mitchell have been volatile and dramatic to say the least and there is no doubt that while his father does love him deep down, he has not been the best role model. You could easily be mistaken for thinking that Phil Mitchell is “ashamed” of his son because he is not the stereotypical Mitchell family member. However, while Phil Mitchell is certainly on the end of Ben’s anger at the moment and it did take an awful lot of bottle for him to approach the police and “snitch” on his father. If this was against anybody else it is likely that Phil Mitchell would have appreciated the guts shown by Ben but the fact it is against him will certainly cloud his thoughts at the moment.

Is this the beginning of a ruthless and a troublemaking Ben Mitchell or has he finally found peace with himself after years of stress and pressure?
