While the whole Patrick and Tommy storyline has been ongoing for some time it came to a dramatic halt this evening with news of Tommy’s death. However, when you unravel the whole story and the death of Patrick’s former fiancee Ruth in a house fire started by Tommy, it does beg the question, would you be able to forgive somebody who had killed a loved one even if it was by accident?
Initially Patrick was unwilling and unable to forgive Tommy on his deathbed but thankfully, and a rarity for Eastenders, he finally gave in to his conscience and returned to the hospital to give his forgiveness. The relief on Tommy’s face was there for all to see and it looked as though he had been waiting for Patrick’s forgiveness before passing away.
Was Patrick right? Was Tommy right to pursue Patrick? What would you do in a similar situation?
