The relationship between Janine Butcher and Pat Butcher has been very volatile to say the least but last night we saw Janine at her very worst, looking to turn the screw on Pat and the loan which she gave her for the house. Bianca paid Janine a visit and asked to keep away from Pat due to her ill-health but unfortunately Janine does not believe that Pat is ill and marched around with her ultimatum.

Over the years Janine and Pat have certainly been at loggerheads although just recently it did seem as though the two had buried the hatchet and were willing to “get on”. However, since Janine came into her inheritance she has been buying properties and businesses around the Square and looking to gain influence and upset people. Pat thought she had the perfect answer when she faced eviction from her home with the bailiffs on the way when Janine agreed to bail her out. However, Janine has taken a security over the house and if the loan is not repaid within 24 hours then Pat will be evicted and Janine will rent out the property.

While Janine has certainly pulled some terrible stunts in the past it seems as though this time she really does not believe that Pat is ill despite the fact she only has days to live because of her cancer. Whether or not Janine will layoff Pat when she finally finds out the full extent of her medical problems remains to be seen but there is no doubt that if Pat dies Janine will be held responsible by many people. Is this a fair assessment?

The truth is that while Janine has not helped herself on many occasions she is a character who has a troubled past and misses her mother and father. However, she has been involved in a number of controversial storylines, murdered Barry after pushing him off the cliff and has become involved in a series of scams which have netted her significant amounts of money. Despite all this, there is still a feeling that underneath the hustle and bustle of Janine today there is a likeable character that is waiting to be loved. Is Michael her true love or yet another nightmare in her life?
