The current main storyline on Eastenders relates to Stacey Slater and her apparent downward spiral into a form of mental illness. While this may well attract headlines and increase viewing figures for Eastenders there is something a little disturbing about the way in which the downward spiral is being filmed and shown on TV. Have the writers of Eastenders gone a little too far this time?
It would appear that the death of Danielle and various other problems in her personal life have tipped Stacey over the edge and she appears to the verge of a mental breakdown. Her mother, who herself has suffered from mental illness in the past, has quickly noticed the tell-tale signs and has given Stacey some food for thought. It is hoped that she can snap out of her depression and get the necessary advice and assistance to control what could potentially be a case of bipolar.
Elsewhere, while Ronnie and Jack appear to be happy, life is full of downs and downs for Billy as he is currently being blackmailed by Nick Cotton and has unfortunately paid the first instalment of his blood money. How will Billy’s story pan out? Will Ronnie and Jack be happy together? Will Stacey snap out of her downward depressive spiral?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackLacey turner plays the character stacey slater very well she is a very talented actress it takes alot of nerve and patience to do what she is doing i shall good luck to her
I prefer when Arthur lost the plot.. saw a bit of enders for the 1st time on friday since Daniel left. i was like, oh stacey is losing it now, what a surprise and shuan is the normal one now lol..
i think it’s the writers that have lost the plot…
wats gonna b on this week
I don’t think that the writer have painted a very good picture of mental health. They should have done more re-search into poeple that have bipolar and the person would not get sick that fast it would take number of week, before really see the sign of someone being on well.
This is a fantastic storyline in my opinion staceys denial is awsome as she cleary needs to go to rehab
Lacey plays a pretty boring character
all of the slaters r boring (except Jean)
I think Stacey has had so much to deal with that it’s normal for her to crack up now!and she gets no help and has nobody to turn to, so all we hope is for her to find at long last a good friend to lean on
I think showing Stacey developing a mental disease adds a lot of depth to Eastender’s plot.
Most people’s experience of mental illness comes from seeing people who are already very ill. You generally do get to see how these things develop.
These plots can almost act as a public service, if they let people see a real person behind a mental illness. Even though she maybe fictional.
I hope i’m not being out of line here, but i’ve written a blog post about what gift i’d buy Stacey. Since you obviously know a lot about Eastenders i’d be really interested to find out if you think i’ve got it right.
If you could spare a few minutes to have alot at my post i’d be extremely grateful.

Why did they focus so much on Stacey walking pigeon-toed, either in boots or barefoot?
Is this an esoteric symptom of bipolar disorder?
Please have Nick Cotton wiped out! He is making so many people unhappy including the watcher and spoiling our afternoons ! Makes me want to switch off and come back in a month or so!
where are the babys in EE while the mums running businesses ,or in the queen vick & so on. Its just not true to life, new mums are too exhausted to do anything lol
I don’t like the way eastenders deals with mental illness or any issue. They do it in such an obvious way and so terribly. Having spent 10 years with severe mental illness i realise that mental illness can affect people in many ways but find it hard to watched the eastenders writers way of doing things. Having been admitted to different hospitals over 30 times i wince and cringe at the lack lusture writing. As a script writer myself i can easily see they are so obvious and predictable when dealing with real issues that affecvt real people.
I LOVE STACEY! I THINK SHE IS A GREAT ACTRESS!
I think the stacey Slater Storey line was GREAT it showed that anything can Happen in Eastenders and that the producers are still going and not just making the show all boring! Stacey (Lacey) Has come a long way in the show with Danielle Dying and Sean ect. and it just adds to the characteristics of Stacey so WELL DONE!
