With Pauline Fowler about to leave Walford, it got me thinking about the ways that Eastenders characters leave Albert Square and where they go to.
Little Mo, Lyn Slater, Kat Slater, Sharon (more than once), Dot, Ruby Allen have all left in a black cab usually with tears in their eyes. Another popular storyline exit for Eastenders is “Can I dash around getting to the Airport before the person leaves for ever?”. I do wish that the script writers would come up with some more original exits - why do so few people leave Walford using their own transport? I can recall Kat and Alfie leaving happily in a car but most people don’t seem to leave of their own accord.
Once they have left, they rarely come back and only get the odd mention in the storyline. This is mainly when the character needs a break and goes off somewhere for a couple of weeks.

I think the most popular way of exiting the soap is :
* in a black cab
* on the tube (does anyone know which tube line Walford is on?)
* driving in a car
* being run over by a car/car accident (Steve Owen, Tiffany Watts)
* on a train (Bianca Jackson)
* on a bus
* on a motor bike (can only think of Mark Fowler!)
* murder/suspicious death
Where do Eastenders characters go to?
* Manchester (most of the Butcher clan went there)
* Scotland (Nigel)
* prison (Cindy, Johnny Allen, Arthur Fowler, Chrissy Watts)
* America (Angie Watts, Sharon Rickman , Michelle and Vicky Fowler)
* Spain (Den Watts)
* to a relative that you have never heard of (The Slater sisters)
Can you think of any more ways to leave? How about we cryogenically freeze a couple of characters and thaw them out in 10 years time? ![]()
