As Tanya continues to struggle to help her sister Rainie in check there are concerns that she may well be on the verge of slipping back into a life of drink and drugs. While Rainie was this evening comforted by Dot Cotton, and indeed seemed to appreciate some of the words of wisdom from Dot, there is great concern that she is literally on the verge of collapse.

The ongoing problems in Rainie’s personal life are also having a massive impact upon the personal lives of Greg and Tanya, a situation which has been further complicated by her ongoing affair with Max. There is no doubt that as and when Tanya requires emotional support it is Max that she turns to and Greg is blissfully unaware of the ongoing situation behind his back. Max has also shown his own disdain towards Rainie who has on many occasions promised to “go clean” only to fall back into her former ways.

The Rainie situation has been in the background for some months now, and indeed the actress who plays Rainie has come and gone on numerous occasions, although many believe it will be a central storyline in the weeks and months ahead. It will also incorporate the lives of Tanya, Greg and Max, as well as Tanya’s children. It seems almost inevitable that Tanya will one day return to Max because these two seem unable to break ties from the past. However, who will suffer in the short to medium term remains to be seen because this group of people has the opportunity to cause mayhem across the Square.

Over the last few months Phil has been there for Rainie on her “down days” and indeed even Shirley had shown some compassion. However, Rainie has used up all of her brownie points with Phil and Shirley and Tanya and Dot are literally her last hopes. Hopefully Rainie will pull through and all will be well but time will tell!
