It was an interesting night for the Eastenders as Tanya had her first “date” with Sean (who was uncharacteristically well behaved and nervous). Tanya made a point of buying a bottle of red wine from the Queen Vic, in full view of Max. She gloated and said she was having it “with a friend”.

Chelsea has returned to Albert Square after her spell in prison, but is understandably keen to be alone. Denise and the family go to the pub to bring the New Year in, but Kevin is anxious to dispose of Yolande’s new car (after finding it is a “cut and shut”).
Kevin, manages to get the keys off Yolande (he had earlier smashed the car window in an attempt to drive it off) by saying he was going to see a car supplier but would get the window fixed on his way. He wants to get the car off to the scrap merchants before midnight but is waylaid by Shirley who knows his secret. After a mini fight with her, he bundles Shirley into the car and drives off at speed.

Unfortunately he runs out of petrol and is not far from the braker’s yard. Shirley suggests that they steal some petrol from neighbouring cars, pretend they are joyriders and then set fire to the car. Kevin goes along with the plan and speeds around doing handbrake turns – until he does one too many and the car crashes with Kevin and Shirley inside. Will they survive?
