Who would have thought that not paying for a sausage would have started one of the greatest Eastenders’ feuds between Ian Beale and Phil Mitchell. It all started when Peggy Mitchell, decided on a fish and chip supper and forgot to pay £1.05 for a savaloy sausage at “Beale’s Plaice”. Ian retaliated by not paying fully for his drinks in the Queen Vic pub.
Since that event, we have seen Phil Mitchell continue to act the bully towards “Squeal Beal” whilst the latter stuck a potato in his exhaust pipe and blocked the pub toilets with concrete. Dot Cotton acted as intermediary and Ben Mitchell was the voice of reason who suggested that they went on a camping trip. Little did he know, that there was potential to be a tragic end.
The camping trip started relatively well (aside from a little sniping), but got steadily worse when Phil decided to act as Chef and burnt not only the sausages, but the tent as well! Phil, Billy, Ian, Ben and Peter decided to head for home, but Phil was distracted by Ian and swerved to avoid a tree in the middle of the road. The car did a somersault and caused some injuries to Ben, Ian and Peter (who became unconscious).
Whilst Billy tried to get help, Phil managed to get Ian out of the car and decided to move the tree from the road. Unfortunately, their two sons were in the car as it rolled down a hill and plunged into a lake. Injured Ian was unable to help, but Phil managed to get the boys out as the car sank further. There was a dramatic end as Peter tried to swim to safety and got his leg caught on a strap attached the car. Phil managed to get him out of the water, but is he dead?
If Peter dies, no doubt the Beale/Mitchell feud will escalate. But if he lives, is it enough for the fighting families to call a truce?
