As Stacey is sectioned by her mum and doctor there are real concerns that she may never be the same again. What happened to the bright eyed, bubbly, beautiful young girl? Will she ever be able to recover her old personality or is she set for a life on prescription drugs?
The storyline regarding Stacey has proved to be very controversial although it is one which is a lot more common than many of us would ever believe. Mental illness is growing in the UK as more and more people feel the pressure of life in general as well as the current economic situation which seems to be lasting forever!
You have to say that Lacey Turner is playing a blinder in her role as Stacey and we can only imagine how much research she has actually put into the part. Eastenders is often criticised for the way certain areas of society are portrayed but this particular story line is growing and growing and more and more people are now seeking help and discussing mental illness.
Not only is this proving an excellent storyline, but it is more lifelike than many people could ever have imagined!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAt the age of 8 I discovered a diary that belonged to my merchant seaman father “I want to end it all”, it said.
My dad wanted to kill himself! Imagine being 8 yrs old and discovering this. 2 weeks later he had a full on nervous breakdown, he was diagnosed with clinical depression he left the sea and worked onshore.
Things were great until I reached 10, I was bulliedd badly, suffered from bulima and anorexia due to feeling like an outsider-a feeling that never left me.
I remember coming home from school one lunchtime when I was 12 and my dad was there, which was very unusual. “Your mum tried to kill herslf”, the only words I could remember my dad telling me.
My mum was diaganosed with paranoid psycosis. Between the age 12 and 21 my mum tried to commit suicide several times, it became tiresome. I had to grow up so quickly, I looked after my parents. I feel like they robbed me of my childhood, now a married woman I have no desire to have children because I am afriad I will pass on this terrible affliction.
My main purpose for writing is because I want to say that Lacy Turner did a fantastic job of portrying a very difficult and delicate situation, that I have experienced 4 times so far in my very young 29 years. I was in tears when I watched the episode where Stacey was led away, only because it was reminiscient of when my mother has been led away on many occasions. Thank you for accurately highlighting mental illness.
