Jane is angry at being stuck in Walford, and tensions with the children begin to show. Later, Pat tells Jane that Ian would not have simply abandoned her, but Jane is unmoved. In a fit, she closes the café and goes to the Vic to drown her sorrows. Back at home, she picks up a voice message from the hotel in South Africa; Ian did not check in. Realising that Ian would never waste money on an unused booking, Jane rushes to the police station. The police begin to look at the case, but when she returns home, Jane finds Ian’s passport confirming that he has not left the country…
Shirley has serious money worries; she needs £300 to cover her rent. To make matters worse, she arrives late for her shift resulting in Peggy cutting her hours. Desperate, Shirley goes for a trial at the launderette. However, the job is to cover Honey’s maternity leave and Dot cannot offer her the job until Mr. Oppodopolous (I think I have the spelling right!) returns from holiday. Shirley persuades Jane to take a holiday (allowing Shirley to look after the café), but Jane forgets the idea when she realises that Ian may be in danger.
Stacey reluctantly accepts Jean’s offer to make her wedding dress; she doesn’t want Max to pay, and doesn’t want to hurt her mother’s feelings. Later, Sean asks Stacey if he can walk her down the aisle. Stacey refuses the offer, as she has already decided to ask Charley. Jean begins work on the dress, while Stacey cannot bear to tell her that she would rather buy one. Meanwhile, Jase persuades Phil to give him a job renovating the old video shop, much to Billy’s dismay.
