Steven holds the matches while a terrified Stacey watches.  Steven persuades Stacey to have a drink, and Stacey tries to talk to Steven about his problems.  Steven talks about New Zealand, and explains that Simon lost affection for him.  Steven blames himself for this, and knew he could not return to New Zealand.  Stacey tries to tell Steven that the twins and Ian do care, but Steven is adamant that he has no one.  As his fury builds again, he grips the matches and talks about how easy it would be to end everything.  Stacey tells Steven that he must keep going, and not give up.  He perks up when she tells him to forget about family for the meantime; he has friends in her and Bradley.  Steven hands a relieved Stacey the matches, and they walk home together.   Meanwhile, Pat tells Ian to give Steven a chance, but Ian explains that he had to make a choice between Steven and Jane.

Ronnie searches for a room, and turns down Jack’s offer of a place to stay.  Jack goes to The Vic, and persuades Roxy to make things up with Ronnie.  Phil tells Jack to stop interfering in family business, but Jack seems unmoved by Phil’s talk.

Gary is horrified when he learns that the prize for the wedding competition was twenty thousand pounds.  Minty and Hazel realise that he tried to scupper their chances, and tell him that he cannot bear to see anyone else happy.  Later, the journalist calls and explains that she loved the story and wants to run a front cover story on them.
